Volunteers Needed
Volunteers of all experience level are needed in many roles to help provide the kids with a safe and fun learning environment allowing each child to develop soccer and other skills.

Please review the various volunteer roles below for a role where you can support the kids!
General Requirements
  • Background Check
    • Paid for by AYSO
General Required Training Provided
  • AYSO Safe Haven Course (~20 - 60 minutes)
    • AYSOU Online Course > Safe Haven
    • Free
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest (~15 - 30 minutes)
    • AYSOU Online Course > Safe Haven
    • Free
  • CDC Concussion Awareness (~30 - 60 minutes)
    • AYSOU Online Course > Safe Haven
    • Free
  • SafeSport (New: ~90 minutes, Refresher: ~30 minutes)
    • External Online Course
    • Paid for by AYSO
Experience Requirements
  • 0+ years of experience. Training is provided!

Referees
Referees are an essential part of the developmental process of the players. Referees provide feedback to the players as they attempt their soccer skills on the field.

Referees also allows the coaches the opportunity to observe their players from the sidelines to identify individual and team strengths and weaknesses.

The referee is in charge of the game. A refereeā€™s authority extends to everyone at the field, including players, substitutes, team officials, spectators, and even assistant referees. AYSO Referees keep the game safe, fair and fun for everyone: the players, the coaches, the spectators, and themselves!
Referee Requirements
In addition to the General Requirements listed above, volunteers will have to complete the following requirements to become a certified referee.
  • Minimum Age: 12 Years Old
  • Regional Referee Online + In-Person Companion Course
    • AYSOU Online Course > Refereeing
    • Free
  • Separate In-Person Companion Course
    • AYSOU Online Course > Training Events
    • Free
  • Background Check
    • Paid for by AYSO
Refereeing Benefits
Refereeing comes with some benefits that help with volunteering.
  • Chooses the games you referee.
    • Preference is for games other than your child's game, but can if no referee is available.
  • Best seats of the game
  • Access to AYSO Refereeing Resources.
  • Referee Supplies (Uniform, whistles, badge, etc)
  • Referee Photo Package
  • Priority team placement for the refere's kid(s) if division is full
  • Priority preference for Region activities
Coaches
Coaches are an essential part of the developmental process of the players. Coaches provide the environment where players can acquire fundamental knowledge regarding individual skills. Additionally, coaches help the players develop teamwork and sportsmanship while having the opportunity to have fun.

AYSO has developed special training to help volunteers who may have little or no soccer experience quickly gain the age-appropriate knowledge and skills they need to become outstanding coaches.
Coaching Requirements
In addition to the General Requirements listed above, volunteers will have to complete the following requirements to become a coach.
  • Minimum Age: 18 Years Old
  • Age Specific Coaching Courses
    • AYSOU Online Course > Coaching
    • Free
  • In-Person Sessions (highly recommended)
    • Run by Experienced Coaches
    • Free
  • Background Check
    • Paid for by AYSO
Coaching Benefits

  • Coach Shirt

Referee Courses
Regional Referee Companion Course
In-person companion course for Online Regional Referee Course.
Registration Required.

5U/6U Coach Clinic
Coach Clinic provided by experienced Coaches to help new and returning coaches. Coach Drills will be sent out prior to training session.
Coaches should bring their child(ren), ball, water.

8U Coach Clinic
