Season FAQs

    • Children ages 3 to 18 years old are eligible to register for soccer with AYSO 1046.

      AYSO 1046 is run 100% by volunteers. We strive to accept and place all children interested in soccer on teams; however, if we are not able to recruit enough volunteers, we will have to close registration early and limit the number of teams formed.

      To help us provide our youth with a fun, fair, and safe soccer experience, consider registering as a volunteer.

    • That's not a problem. We'll help you learn about soccer or we can find you a role that you are comfortable with.

      We need Coaches and Referees, but we also need volunteers to perform other duties such as setting up the fields or performing administrative roles. Since AYSO 1046 is run 100% by volunteers, we need your help in many aspects.

      AYSO provides comprehensive training and certification programs to help you perform the duties of your volunteer position. The Coach and Referee programs provide you with basic knowledge and understanding of the laws of the games. Additionally, the programs are built to provide mentorship as well as opportunity for growth and advancement.

      Courses will be available prior to the season start. Course information will be posted to the website as soon as they are scheduled. Register now as a volunteer so that courses can be planned and scheduled.

    • 5U and 6U practices are typically on Saturday mornings at the scheduled game time. The first 30 minutes is for practice, followed by 30 minutes of game time.

      8U and 10U practices are typically 1-2 days a week. The coach will determine the days, time, length, and location of practices. The teams are usually grouped with similar locations so that practice locations will usually be closer to home.

      12U practices are typically 2 days a week. The coach will determine the days, time, and length of practices. Practices are typically at Phoenix Pecos Park. Other locations may be used as well as needed.

      14U, 16U, and 19U practices are typically 2 days a week. The coach will determine the days, time, length, and location of practices.

      Typical practice day combinations are Monday-Wednesday, Tuesday-Thursday, or Monday-Thursday.

    • Unfortunately, as practices are determined by the Coach's availability we are unable to predict which days of the week your assigned team will practice.

      We recommend first speaking with your assigned coach. If your child is not able to make any practices, please reach out to the region ASAP at [email protected] so we can try to swap your child's team.

      If you are able to Coach for your child, then you will be the one who determines the practice schedule and location. We are always looking for coaches, and would appreciate you volunteering.

    • Games are typically Fridays and Saturdays.
      • 12U Games are typically Fridays at Phoenix Pecos Park.
      • 6U, 8U, and 10U will typically play at Kyrene Centennial Middle School on Saturdays.
      • 14U, 16U, and 19U will usually be in the Centennial Middle School Gym or at Phoenix Indoor Center on Saturdays.
    • Divisions are age groupings based on the player's birth year.

      These age groups are based on the age the child will be on December 31 of the season's year per national guidelines.

      The registration system should also direct you to the correct division as long as your child's date of birth is entered correctly.

    • Each year age guidelines are published at the national level for each season. Those guidelines dictate the divisions based on the age the child will be on December 31 of that season's year.

      What this means is that your child's team and division will still be of similar age and development. Some divisions cover multiple birth years, this allows for the children to learn from each other.

      We unfortunately cannot register your child for a younger division.

    • We encourage children to play within their age divisions; however, we understand that some children may be more advanced than others.

      Please be aware that playing up a division may become overwhelming for some children as there may be a skill gap. This may affect your childs enjoyment of the game. We also understand that some children have more fun when they are challenged.

      Exceptions may be granted for children to play up one division after discussion with the Region Staff.

      Your child may be allowed to register up a division; however, we are unable to guarantee any friend or team requests.

      If as a parent/guardian, you want your child to play in an older division please contact us at [email protected] to discuss.

    • We're happy to hear that you and your child had a positive experience with a coach.

      Although it may be possible to play for the same coach, it depends on many factors. As we are 100% volunteer run, the coach may or may not be coaching this season. Additionally, the coach may or may not be coaching for the same division as your child.

      Coach requests are not considered due to significant time needed to review by the volunteer division coordinators.

    • Balanced Teams is one of the 6 AYSO's core philosophies which means we try to have the teams as balanced as possible with an even mix of older and younger children.

      Friend requests will be reviewed but we cannot guarantee the request. Due to the significant amount of time required to process these requests, we will only consider mutual requests where each player requests each other using their full name. If multiple names are entered, only the first mutual request will be considered.

      Make sure you notate the request in your child's registration under "Teammate Request".

      We understand that carpooling is an essential part of youth sports and appreciate you being proactive to ensure your child will be able to engage in a sport they enjoy.

If multiple names are entered, only the first mutual request will be considered.

    • Cleats are not required but closed toes shoes such as tennis shoes are.

      Cleats are used in many different sports including soccer, football, and baseball.

      FIFA regulates the game of soccer world wide including the uniform and equipment (shoes). Due to the nature of the sport, toe cleats are not allowed as toe cleats are a significant safety risk.

      When buying your child's cleats make sure to check that there is not a toe cleat. Unfortunately, your child will not be able to participate if their cleats have a toe cleat.

      If you are unsure about a certain pair of cleats, please send us a photo of the bottom of the cleats from heel to toe to [email protected]. We'll get you know if the cleat is allowed.

    • Players may not wear anything that could endanger either themselves or another player. This includes jewelry, watches, earrings, soft bracelets, rubber bands, hard hair adornments (e.g., beads, bobbie pins, metal clips). These must be removed before a player is allowed to participate. They may not be taped

      The Referee makes the final decision on what is safe to wear during the game.

    • Medical alert necklaces/bracelets are necessary for the safety of your child. They will always be allowed as long they do not pose a safety risk to your child or another player.

      Your child may be asked to tape or secure the medical alert necklace/bracelet to ensure safety for all players including your child's. Medical Information is to remain visibile when taped.

    • Players are NOT allowed to practice or participate in any match with any type of cast or splint. Your child will NOT be allowed to participate after removal of any type of cast or splint at the field or surrounding area.

    • Certain braces for the purpose of support and not for healing may be allowed if the brace is not a danger to the player or other players.

      The brace should be soft where possible without any exposed hard or metal parts.

      The Referee makes the final decision on what is safe to wear during the game.

      If you have questions about a certain brace, please send us a photo of the brace for review to [email protected].

      Although, you may get a response stating a brace is usuable, the final decision will be made by the referee or on-field official.
